Hello, It’s Me…Leaving a strong Voicemail

No one likes being “ghosted.”

No one enjoys leaving 150,000 messages only to get no response.

Yet, this often happens when leaving voicemails for potential donors, corporate partners, or even colleagues you already work with.

Back in 2022, I wrote a blog about how people sometimes ghost fundraisers to avoid saying "no." Many of you read it.

Today, I want to focus on practical steps to increase the chances of your messages being returned.

Scripts vs. Outlines

Scripts might feel like a safety net, but they can make you sound robotic and impersonal. Instead, use an outline—one that allows you to sound natural while still covering key points that resonate with your audience.

Below, I’ve included two outlines: one for corporate outreach and one for individual donors. Feel free to modify them to fit your style.

Make It Work for You

Print them out. Pin them to your bulletin board. Keep them next to your notepad. Display them on your screen while making calls.
